Winnie experienced a new flavor of tension in the pickup on the way back to town that afternoon. Knox didn’t bother leaning away from her, so the fit in the cab of the truck seemed tighter. Either that, or all that lovely food had gone to her hips—or maybe just her right hip.

He’d insisted she and Sid ride in the truck with him so Cait could go straight home. But Winnie began to wonder if he just wanted her sitting close the whole ride. Or was it wishful thinking?

Ever since she’d caught breakfast, he’d looked at her differently. It wasn’t just that he was seeing her instead of Gwendolyn. He looked like he…enjoyed looking at her.

This time, it wasn’t an act.

And it made her want to wear that little black dress again.

When they pulled over in front of the apartment, Knox jumped out and pulled her bag out of the back. “Come by the bar after supper, if ye like. The pair of ye. And we’ll see what ye have planned for the rest of yer days in Scotland, aye?”

Winnie shivered, chilled by a wet breeze and the shadows of low-lying, gray clouds. Knox gave her the bag, then grabbed the front of her hoodie and pulled her close. When she looked up, he dropped his head and kissed her. Fast and quick.

“Just practicin’ my Kiss and Go.” He winked. “See ye at the bar.”

Five short seconds later, he and that vintage yellow truck were gone.

“Kiss and Go, huh?” Sid opened the door for her. “I should have told you sooner…”

“What?”

“You smell like fish.”
